In order to take your looks to the next level, you, our AskMen readers, deserve the most custom, practical and concrete advice possible. To provide you with the specific information needed to solve your fashion dilemmas, we present our new weekly Style Q&As.Q: How often should I clean out my closet? I noticed that my wardrobe is starting to fill up with clothes that I haven’t worn in years or things that I don’t think I’ll ever wear again and my closet keeps getting more and more packed.

A: If an article of clothing hasn’t seen the light of day in a year, it’s time to bid farewell. For things that get a tonne of wear and tear — like underwear and socks — we suggest performing a purge on a six-month schedule.

If You Don't Get This Right, Your Style Will Never Get BetterQ: I’m shorter than my girlfriend and she’s always upset with me because she feels that she can’t wear heels when we go out. Is there anything I can wear that will make me seem a little taller?

A: We’re glad you noticed that platforms didn’t make the short list for this season’s comeback trends. Shoes with a slightly thicker sole — like the lug — may help in the height department and slim-lined slacks with no cuff can add the illusion of length. Other than that, one of you has to budge or it’s time to bail.

Q: Is shaving with an electric shaver better than using a five-bladed razor? I feel like using one would save me money because I won’t have to buy razor heads but I heard that shaving with an electric one doesn’t give the closest shave.

A: While it’s true that electric shavers have come a long way, they’ll still never cut as close as a more manual method. But whether or not you should make this all-important switch should depend on the thickness of your beard and sensitivity of your skin. If you’re follicularly endowed and prone to breakouts, you may find it best to continue disposing your cash on those rather costly cartridges. Next Page >>
