Learning About Kink

Doc,

I’m starting to get interested in sadomasochism and want to learn how to use a flogger, but have no way to learn. It’s not like there are lessons people can take from a teacher. Plus I don’t want this to be public, how can I do this without outing myself?

Getting your foot in the door in the kink world takes a lot of courage. I think many of us are aware of the myths, stereotypes and prejudice society has towards alternative sexual communities. Thankfully, recent media, namely the 50 Shades of Grey book series, has opened the door to mainstream folks learning about kink. The key is getting good information, building your knowledge base, learning techniques and practicing.

Flogging eh? For those who don’t know what a flogger is, it’s a multi-tailed whip usually made of leather used to strike another for pleasure. Relax, they look and sound much worse than they feel. Most mild-to-medium flogging is much like a massage and pressure to the body. I’ll give you some basics, but remember there is a whole world of flogging theory, technique and skill to learn. Good resources to start with are Jay Wiseman’s SM 101: A Realistic Introduction for basic and beginner’s information andwww.kinkacademy.com (get a membership). They feature hundreds of videos by scene experts that teach people about BDSM, give people insights into kink and demonstrate proper toy use. Here’s my crash course on flogging.

How to hold a flogger is up to the person, but most choose to grip the handle and others place the flogger handle in between their middle and ring fingers to minimise their wrist movements. A few common flogging throws are single throws, figure eight’s, whip throws, punch throws, side throws, double throws, and florentine. Most flogging bottoms choose to lie down, get on all fours, or lean at an angle when receiving strikes.

You can flog a number of places on the body, the most common being the upper back and buttocks. Try to avoid hitting the neck, middle and lower back near the kidneys as well as the tailbone, spine and rib areas. The upper back, shoulder blades and the buttocks are the best areas to focus on.

A single throw is just that, a one-handed swing. A figure eight is a single throw that uses a backhand and forehand swing and strike. The point of impact is high-to-low and creates a figure eight shape. A whip throw is when you pull the flogger tips back and snap the tails toward your partner. A punch throw is the same whip motion, but instead of creating a stingy sensation with the tips being used for impact, the impact of the flogger tails is away from the ends, closer to the centre of the tails, which creates a deeper impact. Side throws are single-armed tosses that strike in a side-to-side manner and can be forehand or backhand throws. Double throws are two-handed throws that work multiple areas of the body. Florentine are double throws with a beautiful rhythmic flair.

There’s a hundred things I left out and most of what I wrote may not make sense when reading it. Fill in the gaps by getting your kink academy membership, read every kink book you can get your hands on and start your journey to a happier sexuality. Next Page >>
